In return, Odin promised them the sun, the moon, and Freyja, the goddess of love and beauty. Fearing the loss of light and beauty, the gods offered an equivalent amount of gold instead. Corrupted by the temptation of the ring and the gold, F¨¢fnir descended into madness.
